Wikipedia To Blackout Tomorrow

Wikipedia is set to shutdown it’s English-language site tomorrow as a protest against proposed anti-piracy laws being discussed in America.

The internet encyclopaedia will join forces with Reddit and Boing Boing by taking part in a “blackout” in opposition to the Stop Online Piracy Act (Sopa) and Protect Intellectual Property Act (Pipa) currently being debated by Congress.

These bills have been designed by legislators to block access to sites containing unauthorised copyright material and have provoked a lot of discussion on both sides of the argument.

Supporters of the Acts say that the potential legislation would combat online piracy by foreign websites but opponents claim it is a step towards regulating the internet and curbing free speech.

The Whitehouse has hinted its opposition to the bills and President Obama might utilise his right to veto if they get voted through both Houses while Rupert Murdoch has announced his full backing for Sopa and Pipa.

PureBlue are all for freedom of speech but rest assured that our web design London site will still be live tomorrow.
