Website owners should be aware that Wednesday afternoon is the peak time for online shopping.
In research that is sure to worry office bosses, InvisibleHand found that internet shopping sites experience 75 per cent more traffic at 4 o’clock in the afternoon of the middle day of the working week.
The study also found that most employees begin browsing for online bargains after lunch as there is a 52 per cent rise in traffic compared to mornings, while two o’clock in the afternoon sees 11 per cent more shoppers compared to the middle of the day.
Robin Landy, founder of the price comparison, said that office stress is the biggest reason why employees opt for online retail therapy at work.
“With workplace stresses and problems, there’s little wonder people head online to spend money,” he added.
It appears that small businesses have benefited the most from the rise in online shoppers as eBay recently reported that the number of traders turning over £1m a year has almost doubled in the last year.
Web design London firm PureBlue have a number of clients who have seen an increase in profits after selling their products through eBay.
