A report in todays Mashable is reporting there is a new “enemy” ap that is heading to FaceBook, and we can’t help but think it is about time. We’re not a curmudgeonly bunch, but the incessant liking on FaceBook was always a little one sided in our view. We at PureBlue believe that your dislikes say just as much about you as your likes.

Enter “Enemy Graph”-  the ap that lets you dislike anything you might like (or not like… as the case obviously is!). Whether it is one of your friends who took you last Rolo without asking, or Nestle for making those packets one Rolo too short, you now have the ability to express your disdain for any thing on FaceBook you may wish.

The aps author spoke to Mashable and said – “One thing that has always struck me is the enforced niceness culture,” Terry told Mashable. “We wanted to give people a chance to express dissonance as well. We’re using the word enemy about as accurately as Facebook uses the word friend.”

Never a truer word said. I must admit when I look at my own FaceBook profile I do doubt how many of my 300+ so called friends I will ever see again. Obviously that doesn’t include any of my chums in our London Web design offices, but I’m pretty sure there are a few folk from primary school in there I haven’t spoken to in years. Not that I am going to name these folk as my enemies, it’s just nice to see the addition of a level of disdain. It’s been a far to one sided affair on social media up until now and I for one look forward to expressing some vitrolle in the world of social media.

Right – I am off to go find the One Direction page pronto.

Well I say we, what I actually mean is Barny our lead developer is.

barny avatar Its true... We are certifiable!

We are thrilled to announce that he has become one of the UK’s very first Magento Ecommerce Developers! Here are PureBlue we love the Power of Magento, and none more so that our dear Barn. In fact if you are lucky enough to brave the Morpeth Arms in Pimlico on a Tuesday night, (or a Wednesday or a Thursday come that…) you will find Barn regularly regailing the clientele with stories of the wonders of Magento.

It’s quite a sight, though we are not always sure the pretty young ladies appreciate just how exciting Magento really is. However we can understand why he gets excited – and so can the team at Magento. So much so in fact they have posted a link all about him on their website.

Have a look by clicking here.

We are all very proud of all he has achieved, and we know we have one of the finest developers in in the UK at our web design london offices.

Keep up the good work Barny!!

Yep – I said it. I am Village Bicycle. Quite a confession I think you will agree. Well I’m afraid this week we have a been the Village Bicycle here at our London Web Design offices, and I’m afraid it’s not what your think…

This week has already seen the launch of our latest Magento Eccommerce site for the cutting edge London Boutique and lifestyle store “The Village Bicycle” – a entirely fashion-focused boutique and website based in Central London “designed to encapsulate the energy and vibrant creativity from London and around The World. The lifestyle boutique sells a wide range of products from Women’s Wear Apparel (including Lingerie, Shoes and Accessories) to Art, Furniture and Music.”

They came to PureBlue looking for a clean and edgy design that really bought the spirit of their Portobello shop to life online, they are pretty thrilled with the results, which you can now view on www.imavillagebicycle.com.

Keep and eye out for it as the PR kicks in now and the Village Bicycle website is due to appear in the pages of Vogue and Grazia in the non to distant future. I wonder if we will get a mention!

The next stage is the mobile website and sage integration – oh the fun we have!

QR codes. By now we all know what they are, and some of us may have even used them, but in case you have been hiding under a rock for the past two years, I’ll indulge you with a brief description.

In essence QR codes are a glorified bar-code, which when read by your phones camera, will transport you to a predetermined web address associated with that item. Now up until now, the success of these little square boxes has been relatively limited. They have in fact been rather more notable for their misuse than their successful implementation, with numerous ads being spotted on the London Underground for example. I can think of little more pointless applications of an Internet based technology than popping 100m underground where there is no Internet connection.

QR codes 300x300 QR Codes the perfect property partner?

Spectacular misuse of QR codes - and dangerous too!

However it was stumbling around the means streets of Balham at the weekend that I noticed one glaring application that I cant quite believe hasn’t been widely applied as yet. Strolling past the row of “For Sale” signs on our high road, curiosity got the better of me on a particular house I have always liked the look of, and I reached in to my pocket to grab my phone, and access the estate agents website. I then performed a search, and couldn’t find the property in question. I refined my search criteria, 6 pages of results. Board of faffing, I duely put the phone in my pocket and forgot about it.

Now admittedly I wasn’t in the market to purchase the house in question at this time, so the Estate agent in question probably wont be crying any tears over my curiosity not being fulfilled, however if I were a potential buyer then my reaction would probably have been the same.

Surly this is one place, out and about in the fresh air with mobile reception, with punters actively walking through the streets where they may want to live, where QR codes will find someone a happy home. So sure enough, on Monday morning back in our London Web Design offices I got straight on the phone to all our estate agency clients and we are now looking at implementing it across their sites.

Watch this space to see it up and running – Technology applied!

Here at PureBlue we are always the look out for the next big .com hit, and this week I think we have found a peach.

The Dollar Shave Club is a US based new business launch that aims to dramatically cut the cost of shaving, by providing unbranded blades direct to your door on a monthly subscription basis. Well that does sound to spectacular you may say, nor is it revolutionary and I would agree with you.

However this company has chosen to bypass the more traditional forms of media favoured by its sports person toting, handle vibrating seven-bladed counterparts and focus all its design on a rather splendid social and digital media campaign with this tremendous video at it’s core.

The video has quickly become an Internet sensation with over one and a half million you tube hits and it’s easy to see why. It’s amazing to think how one fantastic video can prove more effective than the millions spent by Gillette et al in sponsorship and product development. OK – I’m  sure it’s not going to overtake them overnight, but I be any of the major shaving firms would give their eye teeth for the success of this campaign – and the ROI has to have been beyond their wildest dreams.

If you are looking at an online marketing campaign you could do a lot worse than take a leaf from their book, their idea wasn’t revolutionary. Their use of media was.
