Google has given a welcome Christmas present to all web design London agencies by announcing that there will be no further Panda updates over the holiday period.

panda Google Gives SEO Christmas Present

A formal announcement came via Twitter as Google posted: “Search weather report: no major Panda updates until the New Year” which was then later retweeted by all the happy SEO technicians.

The search engine giant has regularly been implementing new algorithm changes through Panda updates this year, which has caused havoc with the rankings of various high profile websites.

PureBlue and our clients have been largely unaffected by Panda updates which are largely perceived as an attack on content farms that publish copied or useless content as Google attempts to tweak it’s algorithm in favour of white hat SEO.

Google is becoming more transparent about algorithm updates and how it works in general, which is trend that will hopefully continue into the New Year.

zeitgeist 300x160 Google Reveals Top Searches Of 2011

You know it is that time of year when all there is to read is lists of the most popular things of the year, well get ready for another one.

Google’s annual Zeitgeist has been released and it reveals the most popular search terms of the year with the royal wedding topping the list of the “fastest rising” enquiry just pipping Apple’s yet-to-be-released iPhone 5.

Although the Zeitgeist did not divulge anything surprising, with Facebook, YouTube and Hotmail predictably being the three most searched for keywords, it did include an intriguing list of the most popular “what is” queries.

The top “what is” question was “what is AV?” but the second most popular and in my opinion the best was “what is scampi?” and if you don’t know, scampi is the tail of a Nephrops.

What is the best cure for a hangover is probably going to be a trending search term in our web design London offices today as the PureBlue team are nicely recovering from our Christmas party yesterday.

We had a delicious lunch at Aqua bar in Kensington and that’s pretty much the last thing anyone can remember. Hopefully no pictures of the even will make it online…

Although PureBlue now have over one hundred web design London fans on Facebook not everyone talked about us in their status this year.

memo 300x248 This Years Most Popular Facebook Status

Facebook’s Memology has revealed that the Royal Wedding was the most popular topic in British status updates during 2011 followed by the UK riots and reality television show The Only Way Is Essex.

The most popular global status updates took on a more American flavour with the top subject being the death of Osama Bin Laden, which was ahead of the Super Bowel and the trial of Casey Anthony.

Facebook’s data provides a valuable insight into what users cared about or found interesting enough to share with friends but the demographic of the social network means that the results must be put into context.

Although Facebook has the largest number of users compared to other networking sites, it might not be the most appropriate social media platform for a specific type of business.

PureBlue are up to speed with the latest developments in social media and we will be happy to help you decide where best to concentrate your efforts.

Google has launched a version of YouTube for schools which makes it impossible for kids to be distracted by the latest viral video.

yt for schools Google Launches YouTube School Service

YouTube For Schools allows classes to access educational videos without displaying any content that might be deemed inappropriate for innocent eyes such as the infamously annoying Rick Astley clips.

The world’s largest video sharing service has even gone to the trouble of putting together playlists around specific subjects which are aimed at different age levels in order to attract schools that were initially worried about using YouTube in class.

Google has also introduced an accompanying site called YouTube for Teachers, which aims to provide advice on how best to use the site for educating children.

Hopefully some of the PureBlue team will have learned some lessons after last year’s Christmas party but we shall find out tomorrow.

We will be leaving our web design London headquarters around 12 so please get your calls in early if you need us.

Recent research has revealed that more people prefer using Google Chrome to browse the internet compared to Firefox.

chromefox 300x139 Chrome Overtakes Firefox In Browser Battle

Google Chrome, which launched in December 2008, has overtaken Firefox after its share of the global market increased to 25.7 per cent, narrowly exceeding the 25.2 per cent share for Firefox, according to a StatCounter study.

Microsoft Internet Explorer remains the market leader with 40.6 per cent; however, industry experts believe that Google Chrome is rapidly closing the gap.

Aodhan Cullen, chief executive of StatCounter, said: “Our stats measure actual browser usage, not downloads, so while Chrome has been highly effective in ensuring downloads our stats show that people are actually using it to access the web also.”

Reasons for the success of Chrome can be attributed in part to advertising and promotion on the homepage of Google search, while its speed also gives it an edge over competing browsers.

The PureBlue team have been busy browsing the lunch menu for our web design London Christmas party on Wednesday which promises to be a fine feast but don’t expect any scandalous photos on Facebook the following day.
